The Biology program at Aegis Omiros University offers a comprehensive four-year academic experience, based on the quality education standards of both the UK and Greece. Its aim is to equip students with theoretical knowledge and practical skills aligned with the demands of today’s biologists.

Graduates are able to study life and living organisms at every level—from the molecular to the ecosystem and society—focusing on their interactions and relationships with the natural environment.

Starting in the third year, students have the option to specialize in one of the following streams:

From the very first year, students engage in structured laboratory-based training, where they learn to apply experimental techniques, design and conduct research, analyze and interpret data, and present their findings in a scientific manner.

The theoretical foundation covers key areas such as the chemical basis of life, the evolution and genetics of organisms, biodiversity, biological structures and functions, and the scientific method in biological research. At the same time, the program emphasizes critical contemporary topics such as biotechnology, regenerative medicine, proteomics and genomics, nature conservation, and cancer biology.

External activities form an important part of the educational experience. Students take part in field trips aimed at exploring and identifying Greek biodiversity across various ecosystems, as well as visits to zoological and botanical gardens, where they study animal behavior and plant care requirements.

All these experiences culminate in preparing students for their research dissertation in the fourth year, ensuring they are well-equipped to confidently advance either into the professional field or pursue postgraduate studies.

Why Biology at Aegis Omiros University

As part of their studies, students receive a free annual membership to the Royal Society of Biology (UK), enhancing their international academic and professional prospects.

It is the only non-state university in Greece offering a recognized academic degree in the field of Biology.

The program is supported by a modern, fully equipped laboratory that hosts practical training and exercises in areas such as molecular biology, genetics, microbiology, and chemistry.

The curriculum is multidimensional, offering students the opportunity to specialize in cutting-edge scientific fields such as genetics, environmental conservation, and marine biology.

The educational process is supported by an experienced and active academic team consisting of molecular biologists, geneticists, chemists, and specialists in zoology and botany.

At the same time, students are encouraged to participate in national and international scientific conferences, as well as in visits to botanical gardens, museums, and zoological facilities.
