The BSc (Hons) Applied Dietetics & Nutrition program at Aegis Omiros University, offered in collaboration with the University of Essex, combines theoretical knowledge with practical application in nutrition, dietetics, and health promotion. The degree is at EQF Level 6, recognized by the Hellenic Authority for Higher Education (HAHE), and leads to professional rights.

The Dietetics program at Aegis Omiros University is designed to develop all the essential skills outlined by the European Federation of the Associations of Dietitians (EFAD) for the modern dietetics professional. The program aims to prepare graduates to become recognized health professionals, capable of working independently to support individuals, families, and broader populations in making nutritionally adequate, safe, palatable, and sustainable food choices—based on evidence-based approaches and in line with the 2016 European definition of a Dietitian.

Why Dietetics at Aegis Omiros University

The educational process includes both academic instruction and supervised practical training, fully aligned with EFAD’s Academic Standards (2018). From the first year, students are introduced to the professional ethics of the health sector and gradually build a solid theoretical foundation in dietetics and nutrition science. The curriculum emphasizes nutritional science, food management, and biomedical sciences (such as chemistry, pathophysiology, biochemistry, and genetics), along with social sciences and psychology, integrated with skills in nutritional counseling.

The program places special emphasis on the Nutrition Care Process, with specialized courses such as Nutritional Assessment in the second year and Advanced Clinical Nutrition in the fourth year. Training in dietetic practice is grounded in evidence-based science and is supported by modules in biostatistics, leadership, and management. The total supervised practical training amounts to 1,000 hours and takes place in accredited healthcare settings under the guidance of experienced dietitians and nutritionists.

Through this experience, students are trained in the nutritional management of individuals with obesity, diabetes mellitus, cardiovascular diseases, and other diet-related conditions, applying in practice the knowledge and skills they have acquired throughout their studies.
