Markos V. Koutras is Professor Emeritus in the Department of Statistics and Insurance Science at the University of Piraeus. He studied at the Department of Mathematics of the University of Athens, attended the postgraduate specialization program in “Informatics and Operations Research,” and received his PhD from the Department of Mathematics in 1983.
He has extensive academic and teaching experience in the fields of Probability, Statistics, Combinatorics, Regression Analysis, System Reliability, and Risk Analysis. He has held academic positions at both the University of Athens and the University of Piraeus, where he served as Department Chair, Director of Postgraduate Studies, Dean of School, and Vice Chancellor.
His academic and research work includes scientific books in both Greek and English, more than 90 publications in peer-reviewed international journals, and over 1,500 citations. He has also served as Associate Editor for international journals, reviewer for more than 30 scientific journals, and scientific coordinator for over 10 research and educational projects.
