Angelos M. Efstathiou

Angelos M. Efstathiou is Professor Emeritus in the Department of Chemistry at the University of Cyprus. He holds a Diploma in Chemical Engineering from the National Technical University of Athens and earned both his MSc and PhD in Chemical Engineering from the University of Connecticut, USA. He joined the University of Cyprus in 1997, was promoted to Professor of Chemistry in 2008, and served in this position until 2024, when he was awarded the title of Professor Emeritus.

His extensive research work focuses on heterogeneous catalysis, environmental catalytic chemistry, catalytic pollution-control technologies, CO₂ utilization, and the development of catalytic processes for energy production and chemical manufacturing. He has placed particular emphasis on the use of in situ/operando techniques, transient and isotopic methods, as well as the investigation of catalytic reaction mechanisms under real operating conditions.

He has served as Associate Dean of the School of Pure and Applied Sciences, Chair and Deputy Chair of the Department of Chemistry, member of the Senate, and member of major committees at the University of Cyprus. His research activity includes national, European, and industrial collaborations, supervision of doctoral and postgraduate students, participation in international scientific committees, and evaluation of research proposals. He has received significant distinctions for his contribution to catalysis and environmental technology, including the Royal Award for Sustainable Technology Transfer, the “Nikos Symeonidis” Research Award, and the Eminent Visitor Award from the Catalysis Society of South Africa.
