Athanasios H. Mitropoulos is Professor of Chemistry in the Department of Chemistry of the School of Science at the International Hellenic University. He holds a degree in Chemistry from the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki, an MSc in Surface and Colloid Chemistry, and a PhD in Physical Chemistry from the University of Bristol, United Kingdom.
He has extensive academic, research, and administrative experience. He served as Professor in the Department of Petroleum Technology at the Kavala Institute of Technology, Vice President and President of the Kavala Institute of Technology, and Vice Chancellor of the Eastern Macedonia and Thrace Institute of Technology. Since 2019, he has served as Dean of the School of Science at the International Hellenic University.
His research work focuses on the in situ characterization of porous materials using static and dynamic techniques, as well as membranes and carbon nanomaterials. He has published 110 papers in scientific journals, 54 conference papers, and 27 books, book chapters, and monographs, while also holding 5 patents. His work has received more than 2,000 citations in Scopus, with an h-index of 29, and he has coordinated major research projects at both national and international levels.
